Worms Games is a series of highly-conceptualized massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) based on a variety of popular Worms strategy games. Worms War is the most recent and highly hyped game in this franchise. Worms Wars lets you choose from many different types of worms, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Each worm is controlled by a computer program that makes decisions about the life and death of your worm. As you defeat other worms, you move up the ladder of success, but be careful as those who rise to the top also move down the ladder at a rapid pace, taking over other worm programs along the way.
Worms War features a fully-interactive environment which has turn-based gameplay, with real shelling sounds and intense game play. The game is extremely detailed and follows a storyline quite closely, following a long, drawn-out war between the good and evil empires. You can fly various aircraft through the environment using worms to attack other worms. There are many worms to choose from, including the formidable Yeti, the agile Grub, and the slothful Tungus. Each character starts with a limited number of health points, and each health point consumed equates to a turn. Worms Games can be played single-handedly or can be played in two-player online competitions with two real players who join as observers and ratchet up the intensity until one player is left standing.
Worms Games is available for both Windows and the Mac, with the Mac versions featuring a new feature called the Worms Widget, which displays a current situation and pop-up box advertisements for upcoming worms while you play single player. If you’ve enjoyed the original game on the PC, the new version has something new to offer, plus the controls are a lot better and more responsive. The Mac release of Worms also comes with a brand new expansion pack called the Dark Island, which adds a whole new set of content to the game. The expansion pack includes the “Wormhole” game mode, where you must use Worms to get from level to level by carefully navigating worm holes. Additionally, the expansion pack includes an entirely new set of weapons and vehicles for multiplayer play.
While playing in single player, your worms do not “respawn,” meaning you have to manually restart the game if they fall victim to an enemy attack. In addition, each level has a series of objectives which are sometimes gated behind gates that are guarded by an array of defense worms. In some cases these gates open after you complete a certain number of missions, but other times they remain locked until you enter them. Either way, these gates present an annoying challenge to master. In a sense, they are the ultimate example of how a single video game series can utilize every element of development to create a more engaging experience.
Worms Gunship is the newest entry in the Worms series, and is the first game in the game series to be released for the PSP. Unlike previous games, this PSP release features both air and ground combat, allowing you to take on waves of worms as you gun down your enemies using a powerful cannon. Worms Gunship sets the bar for what PSP gamers can expect when it comes to classic arcade action and provides the player with a unique video game experience. In fact, if you’re looking for a game that will truly blow you away, look no further than Worms Gunship.
